Israel’s Gaza Genocide is just that – a genocide. Conclusive legal assessments are not in yet, because they take time. But for anyone with eyes to see and ears to hear, there can be no doubt: From the beginning, Israeli officials have promised genocide loud and clear, and they have kept their word by bombs, starvation, and AI-guided massacres. If you do not recognize a genocider in the person unleashing “Gospel,” “Lavender,” and “Where’s Daddy,” you cannot be helped. You would probably have waited until, say, 1946 (at the very earliest) to acknowledge that the Nazis were up to more than “only” war.
At the same time, it can be interesting to diagnose the way in which Gaza Genocide Denialism (developed rapidly in parallel with the ongoing crime) works. Germany, once again, is a particularly intriguing case. For two reasons:
First, apart from Washington, Berlin has emerged as the most fanatical, obstinate supporter of Apartheid Israel, even and especially while the latter has been committing its fresh round of mass murder against Palestinian victims.
Second, there is the way in which German elites have learned to use Germany’s own Holocaust guilt to hide from their obvious moral and legal responsibilities toward the Palestinians. In a perverse twist of history that is almost a sinister form or art, Berlin has declared it “reason of state” (Staatsräson) to stand by Israel with a “loyalty” only rivalled by German Wehrmacht officers fighting to the bitter end for Nazism.
