Some very disturbing statistics for the US and the rest of the world. Not only a failed political system, but also a population going through some kind of collective nervous breakdown with bibles in their hands. The two are connected. The rot started long ago, and mushroomed after the fall of the Soviet Union, an event which went to America's head. It has always fascinated me that Toqueville was able to prophesy that the US and Russia would dominate the history of the twentieth century. Is it possible that the demise of one would lead to the demise of the other? And the next question is: will America bring all the rest of us down with it? Hence my reference to the rest of the world. I'm not Toqueville and I have no idea how this is going to pan out, but my advice to the rest of the world would be: seek unity amongst yourselves and act with both firmness and prudence. These are dangerous times.

Yes, it would have been a descent into unpredictable chaos, fueled by social media, shared fanaticism, and millions of assault rifles. And given the rank incompetence of candidate protection revealed, we're still at risk. Recall there were two unsuccessful attempts to kill Gerald Ford in 1975, just weeks apart!
