I agree with your analysis but it occurrs to me that threatening the metaphoric 'madman with the hand granate in the elevator' is perhaps the best way to make him pull the plug. In other words, forming the coalition you suggest and then confronting the US with it, isn't that the best way to bring about that "big overarching cataclysm", that you mention? I'm not suggesting meekly submitting to the US. But I think the presidents of Russia and China are wise in also managing the madman's insanity.
In the spirit of 1787 Philadelphia, 1848 Europe and 1989 China, eight billion humans together can peacefully dismantle 193 nations (entrenched authoritarian hierarchies) and self-organize synergistically among 1) Asia-Pacific, 2) The Americas and 3) Africa-Europe, comprised of about 12 subdivisions or cultural bioregions each. Such a fusion of labor and ingenuity is how we can expand beyond Earth more rapidly and permanently than we have been able to do since the moon race/landings concluded in 1972 thus enriching life on our homeplanet as well. The 1975 Apollo-Soyuz “Handshake in Space” Mission remains a template of the possible.
Thanks Xolani. I do not blame you based on the past and present. If you wish, let me know how you might reconfigure power across the human population going forward. I am always in listening mode.
It has been so long since I've engaged in a "rational" conversation on the internet (usually, people just yell; and it's very easy to yell back) that I've borderline forgotten how to.
But to answer the question: I think the twentieth century proved clearly the folly of trying to quickly and artificially "unite" people, and while as merely the occasional commentator-from-the-sidelines online my own opinion ultimately counts for little in the grand scheme of things, I would maintain that the best path forward lies in reiterating and reiforcing the sovereignty of nations, peoples, and communities, so as to create the foundational social fabric from which attitudes of openness and acceptance can arise.
But now I go back to sitting in the dark for another week or so, becuase some northerner somewhere felt like he doesn't like us burning coal this week.
Excellent piece. The US neocons and other extremist factions of the government only care about making more money and retaining power at any cost. It's so obvious what's happening. I used to live there. The government, especially the CIA has spent centuries brainwashing them through psyops and owning the mass media among others. Subsequently, they continue to vote these neocons into office. It's the Democrats turn to show the world who really controls the country for now they truly are a one party, military state. I haven't seen this many worldwide protests, including in the US for Palestine in my entire life. It took the killing of babies and children by Israel to wake up the world but especially US citizens, and to speak out against Israel and the US government's financial and political support of this genocide of the Paletinians. Maybe this is what will finally bring down these neocons from continuing to destroy those who won't bow down to them. As someone who lives in South America, we fully know what the US Empire can do to a country. I will continue to believe that we can stop them, as a collective of countries and their people, and we can all move towards more peaceful and prosperous times for everyone.

"Africa-Europe"
No. We don't want Europe.
